The 1936 Olympics were hosted in Berlin, Germany. Adolf Hitler used the games to demonstrate his power and prestige. In the same year, the Poultry Congress was held in Leipzig, Germany.
Scope and Content
The E. T. Wightman collection on 1936 Olympics (dated circa 1936; 0.32 cubic feet; 2 boxes) includes postcards, photographs, and pamphlets relating to the 1936 Olympics in Germany as well as the World Poultry Congress. The collection is arranged into two series: photographs and papers. The Photographs series includes photographs of Olympic venues adorned with swastikas and photographs of the World Poultry Congress. Papers series consists of manuscript items relating to both events.

Scope and Contents note

The Photograph series consists of 72 photographs depicting the 1936 Olympics and the World Poultry Congress. The first 33 photographs are related to agriculture and the World Poultry Congress, showing farms, barns, and chicken coops. The rest of the series documents the 1936 Olympics, and includes photographs of the stadiums, pools , and tracks, as well as various places in Germany.

Scope and Contents note

The Papers series includes manuscript material divided into four categories: a tourist's to Westminster Abbey in Britain; papers that relate to the Poultry Congress; empty envelopes; and items concerning the 1936 Olympics. One notable item (box 2, folder 3) is a small advertisement for a hotel that boasts having been the first Jew-free hotel, open for forty years. Another is a menu for the farewell meal for the Olympic athletes (box 2, folder 3).
