- Biography / History
- The Louisville Free Public Library opened in 1908 and is the largest public library system in Kentucky, having many branches throughout the Louisville area. Several of the branches are Carnegie Libraries, including the Western Branch which was the first public library built for African-American patrons. WFPL opened in 1950 as the first library-owned radio station. It is now the main broadcaster of the NPR news for the Louisville area. WFPK opened in 1954 as a classical music station, but now airs mainly Adult Alternative music.

- The Louisville Free Public Library, WFPL, and WFPK Radio audio recordings (dated 1954-1997; 21 cubic feet; 21 boxes) consists of audio recordings on 1/4 in. reel-to-reel audiotape and grooved audiodiscs from WFPL and WFPK Radio in Louisville, Ky. The collection contains a variety of programs including political speeches, local, national, and worldwide news programs, childrens' programs, music, talk shows, sound effects and advertisements, and educational programming. The majority of them focus on the Louisville, Ky. area, many of them involving local music. Additional programs of interest, include University of Louisville lectures, the Louisville Orchestra Commission, Clef Notes hosted by Alan Brandt, and Kentucky Women in Music.
