- Biography / History
- Charlotte R. Ray (1910-2000) was born in Franklin, Massachusetts to Charles Addison R. Ray (1880-1943) and Frances Key Duke (1881-1969). By 1940, Charlotte had moved to Connecticut. She never married. No other biographical information available.
- American Letters collector Wade Hall (1934-2015) was a native of Union Springs, Alabama. Starting in 1962, he lived in Louisville, where he taught English and chaired the English and Humanities/Arts programs at Kentucky Southern College and Bellarmine University. He also taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Florida. He held degrees from Troy State University (B.S.), the University of Alabama (M.A.), and the University of Illinois (Ph.D.). He served for two years in the U.S. Army in the mid-fifties. Dr. Hall was the author of books, monographs, articles, plays, and reviews relating to Kentucky, Alabama, and Southern history and literature. His most recent books include A Visit with Harlan Hubbard; High Upon a Hill: A History of Bellarmine College; A Song in Native Pastures: Randy Atcher's Life in Country Music; and Waters of Life from Conecuh Ridge.

- The Charlotte R. Ray family papers (dated 1870-1926, 1973-1997, undated; 0.54 cubic feet; 1 flat box, 10 folders, 76 items) comprises genealogy and legal papers, personal notes, photographs, and memorabilia that document the lives of Charlotte Ray and her family in Massachusetts and Kentucky in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The genealogy and legal papers include family trees, grave information, wills, biographies of ancestors, and information on historic homes owned by family members. The photographs mainly depict the Hunt-Morgan house; there are some showing relatives and friends of Charlotte Ray. The personal notes include notes about various books and health care for Charlotte in her later life. The memorabilia includes a membership certificate for a professional organization and 2 wooden spear tips.
