Scrapbooks, 1936-1960

Scope and Contents

The Scrapbook Series consists of approximately fourteen scrapbooks of various sizes and shapes dating from 1894-1971. Most of the scrapbooks were compiled and constructed by Gregory's daughter Marion Hale Gregory (Pettit), although a few of scrapbooks belonged to either Gregory's wife Marion Hale Gregory Sr., or Gregory's mother-in-law Mrs. W.L. Hale. The scrapbooks contain a wide variety of emphemera, including notes, letters, drawings, photos, poems, autographs, travel momentos, maps, matchbooks, menus, napkins, and the like. Of interest to some researchers might be scrapbooks from both Marion Hale Gregory Sr. and her daughter that detail campus life during their college days at Sweet Briar College in the early 20th century.

Note: some loose items from the scrapbooks have been rehoused and sleeved due to preservation concerns. The original scrapbook location of these items have been documented.

You may come across language in UK Libraries Special Collections Research Center collections and online resources that you find harmful or offensive. SCRC collects materials from different cultures and time periods to preserve and make available the historical record. These materials document the time period when they were created and the view of their creator. As a result, some may demonstrate racist and offensive views that do not reflect the values of UK Libraries.

If you find description with problematic language that you think SCRC should review, please contact us at SCRC@uky.edu.

UK Libraries Special Collections Research Center is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. Appointments are encouraged but not required. Schedule an appointment here.

Researchers must have an SCRC Researcher Account to request materials. View account set-up and use instructions here.
