’ Dear Fred=
I I did not realize, when I saw you in Cleveland the other after-
noon, that you had just been ade President—e1ect. In fact, I did I
h not know it until I read the paper the next morning, as I was so
, busy with my exhibit that I didn't know much of what was going on.
I feel that not you, but the House of Delegates, should be con-
,1 gratulated for having sense enough in these trying times to select
a man who is an active fighter, rather than a "stuffed shirt." I
had not expected them to have that much intelligence, since, accord-
I _ ing to geographical and specialty political requirements, the president
f elect would ordinarily be an internist not from Kentucky.
I- I know that you have accepted the position at considerable personal
in sacrifice, particularly since Joh son has gone into the Army. If I
f can be of assistance in any way, please let me know.
