- Dear Fred:
I I have been intending for the past several days to write
. you and extend my congratulations to you on the occasion of your
I election as President of the American Medical Association. I always
get a real kick out of any advancement or honor which comes to a
person for whom I have a high degree of respect and genuine liking.
I might add, too, that from a more or less ignorant layman’s point
of view the opportunity for constructive leadership in the American
e Medical Associatior1waS_probably never greater.
_ I appreciate your letter of congratulations and good will
in the matter of my new appointment at the University of Kentucky.
I do happen to like the Blue Grass and the people in it very much,
A and this is another reason why I shall look forward to my new duties
with pleasure.
If I were sure you could be depended upon to shoot the
V . kind of golf game a gentleman should I would challenge you for a V
j game when I get back. For some years now I have played golf with
i the idea that it can be fun and not merely frustration and profanity,
'A although a certain amount of the latter is, I think, occasionally
Q necessary in most any situation. Profanity may on certain occasions
i be merely vigorous English.
ii l How about such a game?
I Sincerely yours, `
I www
