Collection Overview

Biography / History
Kentucky geologist and historian, Willard Rouse Jillson (1890-1975) authored over 300 geological texts and numerous works pertaining to Kentucky history. Jillson served as the State Geologist of Kentucky from 1919-1932 as well as the director of the Sixth Kentucky Geological Survey from 1920-1921. Additionally, he taught geology at the University of Kentucky in 1918 and at Transylvania University in 1947. He died in 1975.
Scope and Content
Willard Rouse Jillson Geology of the Pitman Oil Pool in Kentucky manuscript (dated 1959; 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box) contains three copies of Jillson's work. The copies include a preliminary draft, with original photographs, a copy of page proofs and a printers copy. The work contains geological and historical documentation of the Pitman Oil Pool in Greene County, Kentucky.
