- Biography / History
- Brigadier General Robert Todd (circa 1757-1814 or 1820) was an 18th century American pioneer, politician, and soldier. As an officer in the Continental Army under General Anthony Wayne, he took part in the Indian Wars and the Western Campaign during the American Revolutionary War. Together with his brothers John Todd and General Levi Todd (grandfather of Mary Todd), he was involved in the early economic and political development of Kentucky prior to its admission into the United States in 1792.
- Robert Smith Todd, 1791-1849 was the son of General Levi Todd. He studied at Transylvania University and became a lawyer. In November 1812, he married Eliza Parker. Their third child, born on December 13, 1818, was the future Mary Todd Lincoln. Robert S. Todd was a wealthy businessman with connections to many noted Central Kentucky politicians.

- The Todd family papers (dated 1785-1849, undated; 0.1 cubic feet; 1 folder) consist of a bound volume containing typescript and original documents pertaining to Brigadier General Robert Todd and other Todd family members. The collection includes a 1784 handwritten diary of Robert Todd's expedition for settling lands in Kentucky; deeds; three resolutions pertaining to the demobilization of troops, 1791; a letter to General Robert Todd pertaining to the disposal of land from B. Sebastian, 1793; documents pertaining to Robert S. Todd; and poems commemorating a battle in which Robert Todd participated.
