The ACTS Constitution Committee announces that the Library Faculty has
approved the revised Procedures Document. The revised ACTS
therefore stands as approved.
New Government Publications Department Head
Ms. Janis Pivarnik comes to the library from the University of Indiana,
Bloomington where she was Visiting Assistant Librarian, Government
Publications Department. She will assume her new duties July 1.
Book Sale
April 26-27 offers the opportunity of a lifetime for the book buyer. The
3,000 or so books being offered by the library range in price from 25 cents
to five dollars. First editions, Kentuckiana, c ssics, textbooks are
P the items to be available. The Patio at the Student Center, from
9:00-3:00 is the location both days. YOU CAN HELP! David Farrell asks
volunteers to offer in advance if possible; if not, come anyway, anytime,
either day. Or tell John Bryant.
Special Library Section/KLA Studies Energy
"Energy Sources and Resources in Kentucky" is the theme for this year's
spring meeting of the Special Libraries Section of the Kentucky Library
Association being held April 19-20 at the Executive Inn in Owensboro,
Kentucky. Activities on Thursday include registration from 12:30 to 1:30,
guest speakers Russell A. Brant, Head of Coal Section of the Kentucky
_ Geological Survey and James Jones from the Kentucky Center for Energy
Research, a panel of librarians addressing energy information needs, a
social hour and a banquet. On Friday there will be a tour of Texas Gas
Transmission Corporation including the library, a business meeting and

New Organization Proposed
A Kentucky SOLINET User's Group has been encouraged by librarians
sreplying to a letter of inguir Numerous ideas and suggestions were
indicative of a sincere interest and enthusiasm for this organization
among its potential members. A its first meeting, the group expects
to address organization, goals, affiliation with other Kentucky library
groups. Jane Starns, SOLINET Assistant Training Coordinator for this
region will be the guest to explain what is, and perhaps to anticipate

AAUP Presents UK Faculty Salary Report
The UK Chapter of AAUP cordially invites all UK faculty and administrators
to attend a social hour and the presentation of the 1978-79 UK faculty
salary report. NO reservations needed.
Open Enrollment-Insurance ‘
The University Personnel Division announces open enrollment during the
whole month of April for employees wishing to enroll in group accidental
death and dismemberment insurance. This is merely a reminder; every staff
member received the notice.

Kentucky: Then and Now
When Negroes were admitted to UK, the Director of Libraries asked which
tables in the Reference Room should be set aside for them. The Library
Staff (i.e. Faculty) opposed any setting aside of tables. Whitney
Young's sister, Eleanor Gaillard (now a different name) worked in
Gifts and Exchanges during the summer of l95l.
Lyman T. Johnson brought intergration to the University of Kentucky in
l949 when he became its first black student. His long career as educator
and civil rights leader will be recognized when he receives honorary
doctor of letters degree at the University's May l2 commencement.
OTHER CONFERENCES
The Gerontology Advisory Committee of the Council on Higher Education
presents a workshop on Curriculum Design in the Behavioral Sciences
and the Human Services Profession April 22-23 at the Holiday Inn North,
Lexington. While this is addressed primarily to faculties of graduate
and undergraduate programs, proposals and decisions will have impli-

Midwest Academic Library Conference
The Midwest Academic Library Conference will be held April 26-28 in
Macomb, Ill. The theme will be the Academic Library and Its Regional

Kentucky Women's_Studies_Conference
The purpose of this meeting is to promote the expansion of women's Studies
Programs in Kentucky. The keynote address, "Women, Men, and Money" will
be given by Sylvia Auerbach, well known in peraxml financial planning.

Census Workshop
Lgcating Census Data in Printed Reports is the subject of a one-day work-
shop, June l, 8:30-4:30 in Room 239 Classroom Building. The instructor
is Mr. Lawrence E. McNutt, Data User Services Officers, U.S. Bureau of
the Census. TEEU credits will be awarded. For further information,
