- Mary Didlake, daughter of George Ware Didlake and Ann (Nannie) Bain of Lexington, Kentucky, began work at the University of Kentucky as a student assistant in 1891 and moved her way up in the department until she retired in 1957. She became UK's first female valedictorian in 1895, served as interim department chair for three months in 1929, and later earned the position of associate in the entomology department in 1935. Mary Didlake died in 1971 at the age of 96.
- Mary Didlake's father, George Ware Didlake, was a prisoner with other Confederate soldiers at Johnson's Island, Ohio, during the Civil War.

- The Didlake family papers mostly consist of Mary Didlake's date books but also contain family correspondence, financial papers, and land transactions and deeds. Didlake used the date books as daily diaries, recording social events, the weather, and her bird watching. Other notable items include scrapbooks that observe the deaths of Nannie Bain Didlake and Katherine Didlake and multiple autograph albums. One album that belonged to George W. Didlake contains the signatures of Confederate prisoners at the military prison on Johnson Island, Ohio.

Scope and Contents note
The Mary Didlake papers series contains Didlake's date books from 1903-1965, in which she recorded daily events and bird watching notes. The series also includes autograph albums for Mamie (Mary) Didlake, correspondence, and a composition notebook, which also holds Didlake's notes as treasurer of the Lexington Alumni Club.

The Didlake papers series contains correspondence between family members, financial papers, scrapbooks, albums, and documents recording the history of Christ Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Noteworthy items include the will of William Bain Didlake, scrapbooks honoring the deaths of Katherine Didlake and Nannie Bain Didlake, and an autograph album belonging to George W. Didlake containing signatures from Confederate prisoners on Johnson Island, Ohio.
