Collection Overview

Biography / History
Calvin Cogswell Morgan III (1873-1908) was the son of Colonel Calvin C. Morgan (1827-1892) and Caroline M. Bell (1845-1920). Col. Morgan, engaged in the hemp industry with his brother, General John Hunt Morgan during the 1850s, and just prior to the Civil War, was his partner in the importation of wool from New Mexico. Following the war, he and a third brother, Richard C. Morgan continued to be active in business ventures, especially hemp production in Lexington. After the death of his father, Calvin C. Morgan III "...inherited an ample fortune, which enabled him to be free from business cares, and to gratify his tastes in whatever bent they turned." (April 21, 1908, Bourbon News)
