Amber Moon Productions began in 1978 as an all-female nonprofit organization that produced educational and cultural events and workshops featuring women artists from the local Lexington, Kentucky, area, as well as national and international artists. The group formed out of shared purpose to create a series of women-focused cultural events that represent the diversities of female experience through music, film, poetry, and theater. Named for a phase of the moon, members espoused the rising moon as a symbol of women gaining strength. The collective dissolved in the mid-1980s.
