Scope and Content
The Allen family papers (dated 1862-1912, bulk 1910-1911; 0.12 cubic feet; 6 folders) comprise letters, papers, and photographs that document the Allen family of Cincinnati, Ohio in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The letters are mostly from friends to members of the Allen family, namely Alfred, Matilda, and their son Charles. These letters discuss Alfred's business dealings, Charles's struggles in the automobile manufacturing and sales business, issues over Marston Allen's estate, and Matilda's genealogy research of her family. The papers are compilations of Matilda's genealogy research, with detailed records of ancestors going back to the 17th century. Also in the collection are 25 photographs of portraits of members of the Allen family.
The Allen family papers are part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
