Collection Overview

Biography / History
Dr. Ernest Greene Trimble was a professor in the Political Science department at the University of Kentucky from 1922 until he retired in 1966.
Scope and Content
The E. G. Trimble collection on Kentucky Labor Unions (dated 1862-1965; 4.47 cubic feet; 11 boxes) consists of correspondence and printed materials concerning labor unions in Kentucky. The majority of the collection consists of correspondence between the Kentucky State Building and Construction Trades Council and its locals. Because union districts do not necessarily follow state lines some material relating to Kentucky locals also involves areas in adjacent states of Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia. Additionally, the collection includes correspondence of Dr. Ernest G. Trimble of the University of Kentucky who gathered information about the growth of the union movement in Kentucky for a planned history of organized labor in Kentucky. In addition, there are copies of articles about the labor movement from Cincinnati, Covington, Louisville, and Lexington newspapers. The collection also includes documents concerning wage scales, contracts, and agreements.
