Biography / History
Daniel Drake received his early medical training in Cincinnati, Ohio as an apprentice of Dr. William Goforth and engaged in practice in that city. After studying medicine formally at the University of Pennsylvania (1805, 1816), Drake returned to Cincinnati and, late in 1817, accepted a position in the Transylvania University Medical Department in Lexington, Kentucky. Drake lectured for a single term before leaving to found the Medical College of Ohio, in Cincinnati. He accepted a second position at Transylvania in 1823 and remained there until 1827.
