Scope and Content
The Margaret Briscoe letters (dated 1920-1925; 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box) comprise letters that document the relationships held by Margaret Briscoe, from Morganfield, Kentucky. The bulk of the materials consist of incoming letters from either friends or family. The five folders are arranged first by the author and then in chronological order. As a whole, the papers shed light on the relationships held by one member of a prominent Kentucky farming family from the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. The letters describe Margaret's interest in oil drilling, prior travel out west, and hosting visitors.
The Margaret Briscoe letters are part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
