Collection Overview

Biography / History
Due to lack of information about the origin of these glass plate negatives, little is known about their history. Each negative has an original identification number, handwritten name and each is a formal portrait. Because of these details, it is believed that these negatives were taken in a portrait studio ca. 1880's; coinciding with the popularity of the cabinet card format.
Scope and Content
Glass Negative Studio Portrait photographs, circa 1880, contains 23 glass plate negatives. They are formal, studio portraits of men, women and children. Most of the subjects who requested the sitting are identified, but some of the handwriting is illegible.
