Biography / History
Presbyterian Minister. John Lyle came to Kentucky circa 1800. By 1806 he and his brother Joel Reid Lyle had established themselves in Paris, Kentucky. The father of both was John Lyle (1746-1815), a Virginia clergyman.
Scope and Content
This is a microfilmed copy of a typescript of a diary and journal kept by John Lyle from June 14, 1801 to January 10, 1803. It provides Lyle's description of sermons preached by various ministers, conversion of numerous people including some blacks, large camp meetings, and numerous other religious events around Paris, Ky. during the Great Awakening period.
