- Appalachian Leadership and Community Outreach, Inc. (ALCOR), originally known as the Alice Lloyd Community Outreach Program, was founded in 1969 by Will Hayes and Benny Ray Bailey at Alice Lloyd College to meet the needs of a region suffering from increased out-migration, poor sanitation, inadequate medical facilities, and high public school dropout rates. Conceptually, the organization sought to employ college students from the region who could gain the trust of rural Appalachians and who would then refer them to existing services. After receiving a three-year, $260,000 grant from the Bruner Foundation, Alice Lloyd expanded ALCOR to include other colleges including Lees Junior College, Southeast Community College, Hazard Community College, Union College, and Cumberland College. The three-year program had several objectives including: to provide centers of enrichment in each community; to provide children with new experiences through groups activities, creative expression and broadening horizons; to provide improvement of health and sanitation standards; to make people aware of available resources and how to use them; to encourage individual members of the community to communicate with one another. During the next thirteen years, ALCOR's activities included recreation programs; healthcare initiatives including the presence of health professionals who worked in the communities on nutrition, dental and personal hygiene, immunization, and long term health; educational outreach designed to provide vocational training, public school retention incentives; and functional literacy for adults. Presidents of ALCOR included Will Hayes, Ray LeRoux, J. Richard Blandau, Jack Burch, and Dwight M. Hendrix.

- The Appalachian Leadership and Community Outreach, Inc. (ALCOR) records (dated 1967–1982, undated; 49 cubic feet; 49 boxes and 1 flat box) consists of papers, ephemera, photographs and some audio-visual film and cassettes documenting the activities of ALCOR to improve the health and educational opportunities in the central Appalachian highlands during the 1970's. The majority of the collection details ALCOR's educational outreach programming conducted through Alice Lloyd College, Cumberland College, Lees Junior College, and Southeast Community College, and to lesser extents Hazard Community College and Union College. These files include project descriptions, evaluations, and statistics, as well as correspondence and meeting notes between organization members. Additionally, the records contain the Coordinated Consumer Health Education Project (CCHEP) files, which include project descriptions, proposals, and evaluations; employee evaluations; health surveys; grant applications; and case files detailing ALCOR's outreach and educational efforts on an individualized level. This collection also includes a snapshot of government sponsored nutrition education materials, including brochures, posters, and handouts, which informed CCHEP project efforts and were provided to relevant cases. In addition to programming files, the collection includes administration and financial records documenting the activities of the board through meeting notes and correspondence, detailed handbooks, and project planning documents such as needs assessments. In the financials documents, there are reports and proposals from ALCOR partner organizations, expense ledgers and reports, proposed budgets, and journals (or ledgers). The collection includes nearly 2,000 photographs depicting the conditions of eastern Kentucky during the 1970's and the outreach efforts of ALCOR. " There is also an informational film about ALCOR's efforts in the region, as well as, an audio cassette recording of board meetings.

Scope and Contents
The Administrative Files series, 1970-1982, contains the official papers, board member and meeting documents, and inner office records and reports. Official papers include ALCOR articles of incorporation, by-laws and formal proceedings for the organization. Individual board member files represent each member's background and also include correspondence related to their ALCOR efforts. Board meeting materials include agendas, minutes, and notes about the proceedings. Office files include the day-to-day logs and calendars, contracts, personnel policies created by the administration of ALCOR. The series also contains evaluations and reports on the methodology of ALCOR programs. Finally, newspaper clippings about ALCOR works and other Kentucky educational/recreational programs are included in the series.

The College Files series, 1970-1981, consists of seven different participating colleges throughout Southeastern Kentucky records. These universities include: Alice Lloyd College, Cumberland Community College, Hazard Community College, Lees Junior College, Southeast Community College, Union College, and the University Year for Action. Each college's subseries includes yearly program reports along with course catalogs and handbooks. The series contains copies of Appalachian Heritage and Mountain Memories, which include personal poems and stories from those connected to the Appalachian region. The series is organized into subseries by college. The subseries are organized in chronological order beginning with the program reports, handbook information, and finally general college information and publications.

The Concentrated Consumer Health Education Project (CCHEP) series, 1967-1982, comprises documents detailing the activities of the Alice Lloyd College Outreach Reserves (ALCOR) Coordinated Consumer Health Education Project. Documents include program files (planning, descriptions, proposals, and evaluations), correspondence files, reports, grant applications, surveys, health and wellness information (brochures, handouts, and pamphlets), employment descriptions, regional demographic information, and case files detailing information about participants in the project. These documents are primarily from the period of 1968 to 1981, though many of the health and wellness information documents are undated. Scope and Contents
The Development series, 1969-1982, consists of records relating to numerous foundations and funds, most notably, The Colonel Harlan Sanders Foundation and The John D. Rockefeller Foundation and Fund. These foundations contributed to the funding of the health related projects conducted by the different participating colleges. Each participating foundation in this program has an indexed file and development card. These are arranged in alphabetical order. The series also contains board meeting notes and various project descriptions, including the Aging Training Project and IV-A Training Project. Also included at the end of the series are project development budget information, college director memos, project descriptions, community development memos for each college, and the ALCOR Development book. The files in this series are all arranged in chronological order.
