Collection Overview

Biography / History
Charles P. Graves joined the Civil Engineering faculty at the University of Kentucky in 1958. He worked to make architecture a professional degree program at the university. The School of Architecture was established in 1965 with Professor Graves as Dean. That year, the program also received its first accreditation from the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The School became a college in 1967. Graves resigned from the college in 1971. Charles Graves is an endowed Associate Professor in the college of design at the University of Kentucky.
Scope and Content
The Charles P. Graves architectural drawings (dated 1955-1973; 15 cubic feet; 5 flat file drawers) comprise architectural drawings for single family homes, apartments, townhomes, a fraternity house, and a dormitory primarily in Lexington, Kentucky. Other projects include a church, a funeral home, a racquet club, bookstores, a barn, a motel, and a shopping center. Most of the projects were located in and around Lexington, Kentucky, however, there are some projects located in Louisiana, South Carolina, Maryland, and Missouri. Many of the drawings were produced by Graves-Hill Associates. Other firms include Concord Homes, INC.; Frankel, Curtis, and Coleman; and Harland Bartholomew and Associates.
