Biography / History
Editor, attorney, judge, state senator, consul-general to Samoa, and orator James Hillary Mulligan was born in Lexington, Kentucky on 21 November 1844, son of businessman Dennis Mulligan. His home, Maxwell Place, is now the official residence of the president of the University of Kentucky.
