Biography / History
Bowman was an instructor at Berea College for a number of years, having come to Berea from North Carolina in 1907. The donor of these photographs was his daughter, Maud Bowman Hunter, a 1918 graduate of the College. There is no clear indication whether the prints were collected by James Bowman or his daughter.
Scope and Content
This collection is comprised of mounted prints (33 items) of Berea College students, buildings, and athletic teams.Photographs consist chiefly of mounted 6x8 black and white prints. These depict literary groups at the College and Academy, scenes from student industries at Berea, various student assemblies or convocations, campus buildings, and football team group photos. A small portion of the prints are identified, and many include names of persons depicted.
