Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- Thomas Dye Owings operated several furnaces in Bath County, Kentucky, as well as a furnace store, grist mill, and blacksmith shop in Owingsville. One of Owings' furnaces, Slate Creek furnace, operated from 1798 to 1818, and another, Maria Forge, operated from 1810 to 1840. The furnace store was moved to Owingsville in 1814.
- Scope and Content
- The Thomas Dye Owings papers comprise three ledgers, one daybook, and one folder from his business enterprises covering the years 1817-1825, 1848-1850, 1923, 1926-1927, and 1930-1933. In addition to recording business transactions, one volume includes a few records of furniture repairs for the accounts of Hess &, Snediger and Stress &, and Young. The folder contains ledger accounts for two of his customers and scraps of paper with his business expenditures.

The Thomas Dye Owings papers, in this folder, are comprised of two loose ledger accounts for the business, Slate Creek Furnace, some scraps of paper with business orders, and a clipping of an article from The Spirit of '76.
