Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- Amber Moon Productions began in 1978 as an all-female nonprofit organization that produced educational and cultural events and workshops featuring women artists from the local Lexington, Kentucky, area, as well as national and international artists. The group formed out of shared purpose to create a series of women-focused cultural events that represent the diversities of female experience through music, film, poetry, and theater. Named for a phase of the moon, members espoused the rising moon as a symbol of women gaining strength. The collective dissolved in the mid-1980s.
- Scope and Content
- The Amber Moon Productions scrapbooks (dated 1978-1984; 0.3 cubic foot; 1 box) comprise two scrapbooks that document Amber Moon Productions' music, performance, and feminist social activities in Lexington, Kentucky. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, performance reviews, flyers, and advertisements related to a range of activities sponsored by the group. Activities included drum circles, plays, concerts, and poetry readings that were hosted in book stores, theaters, and private homes in and around Lexington and at the University of Kentucky campus.
