A shrine, museum and library, it is owned and operated by the Kentucky Society, D.A.R. and open to the public. When Major Joseph Duncan licensed his 'majestic inn' and hung out his sign 'THE GODDESS OF LIBERTY' this territory was part of Virginia, with Daniel Boone the first representative from this county of Bourbon in the Virginia Assembly. He with thousands of pioneers came here for rest and refreshment. The left wing was added by the widow of Major Duncan and these together with the first cabinet shop (not yet renovated) constitute this remarkable memorial to the expert workmanship of that early day, and to those men who came with ax and rifle to open up the wilderness.")
